Audrey Hayes

Artist’s Profile/C.V.

Much of my time is spent searching for interesting sections of wood, predominantly from windblown trees.  I then work on the pieces, by shaping them with a chainsaw and chisel and then blackening them with fire.

Driven by the challenge of simplicity I strive to maintain the organic qualities of the tree whilst offering a contemporary form. I hope to capture an aesthetic and a presence within my pieces that invites one to question, touch and caress.

I make indoors and outdoors works and also creates site specific pieces to commission.

I am currently the Designer in Residence in the 3D Design department at Manchester Metropolitan University support by The Setting Up Scheme, Manchester Design Initiative.
