Oystershell Grit

Oystershell grit is not a food, but it can be offered to birds to help them increase their calcium, mineral and trace element intake, as well as helping with their digestive systems. The calcium also helps with egg production.

Some bird seed mixes already contain oystershell grit so read the label before adding any.  When you do add it, it should be mixed into the food at roughly 5% of the the total food by weight. It can either be scattered on the ground for birds to pick up, or offered on a shallow dish.
