Fruit

Technically, fruit are the ripened reproductive body of a seed plant.  Like vegetables, they are foods which we take for granted because they are always readily available on the supermarket shelves.  A vast range of exotic fruit are available from all corners of the globe.  Pineapples, paw paws, kiwis and even everyday fruit like oranges and bananas travel thousands of miles to reach our table.

It's easy to forget however that Britain grows many delicious fruit and when ripe, they can be far superior in taste to any exotic.  Apple, pear, raspberry and strawberry are but a few of the gems that are grown in the British climate.
