Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' (Anemone)

Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' is a very simple, single, white Japanese Anemone.  It produces masses of flowers on tall wiry stems in late summer to early autumn.

History

The name Anemone is thought to have come from the greek word 'Anemos' which means wind. 'Honorine Jobert' is an old garden hybrid which was discovered in Verdun, France in 1858 and they have been popular in gardens since the mid 19th Century.

Planting

Can be planted at any time of year. Water the plant well before planting and dig a hole larger than the root ball, loosen the soil at the bottom and mix in a general fertiliser.  Place the plant so that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface, backfill, firm in carefully around the roots and water in well. This will ensure good soil and root contact, and give the plant a good start.

Propagation

Division (divide plants March to April).

Cultivation

Will grow well in any reasonably fertile, moist but well drained soil in sun or partial shade. The foliage may get a little damaged in very hot dry sunny conditions.

Aftercare

A relatively easy plant to grow, feed by mulching around the base of the plant each spring with well rotted manure or garden compost.  Cut back the old stems after the flowers have faded and remove any old dead leaves the following spring.  These plants do not like being disturbed but it may become necessary if they become too large or congested. The best time to lift and divide these plants is March to April.
