Achillea siberica 'Terracotta' (Achillea)

History

Originates from the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

Planting

Can be planted at any point in the year.  Water well before planting.  Dig a hole loosening the soil with a fork, especially at the bottom. Place the plant in the hole so that the compost is at the same level as the surrounding soil. Fill in around the plant with loose soil and firm in the roots to secure the plant.  Water again after planting.

Propagation

Sow seeds in situ or propogate through division in spring.

Cultivation

Ideally grow in moist but well drained soil and in an open site with full sun.  Achillea's will however grow in a wide range of soils and conditions.

Feed annually in spring.

Pruning: this herbaceous plant dies back, losing its  top growth and over-wintering underground.  some plants have  persistent seed heads that can  be attractive winter features as well as being a food source for birds. These can be left on the plants until the following spring.

Aftercare

No special care required, apply a general fertiliser in spring to maintain a good healthy plant.

Pests

No specific pests, although aphids may be a problem.

Diseases

Trouble free, reasonably disease resistant.
